Sun Ultra 60 and serial console connection

Discussion in 'Sun Hardware' started by Faisal Fayyaz, Jun 26, 2003.

  1. I have a Sun Ultra 60 workstation (OBP v3.2.5) that has an Elite 3D video
card in it. However, since I don't have a Sun monitor or keyboard, I have
attached a null modem cable between my PC laptop running Windows XP and the
serial port A on the Sun Ultra 60. For terminal emulation I am using
TeraTerm Pro. Everything seems to work OK and I can get a console
connection going. However, every time I shutdown the TeraTerm Pro
application and re-connect, I notice my Sun Ultra 60 is at the "ok" prompt.
This is un-usual since I have done this with other Sun workstations without
seeing this problem. It seems that when I close the TeraTerm Pro software,
it must be sending a break signal that is causing the Ultra 60 to go to the
"ok" prompt. Does the Ultra 60 serial port behave differently from other
Sun workstations (I have tried the same setup on an Ultra 10 and Ultra 30
without problems). Has any one seen this and know of any remedies? Greatly
    appreciate any info. Thanks.

  2. The Sun is recieving a break signal. Use the kbd command to handle
this or edit /etc/default/kbd to make it more permanent.
