T61 cannot take a blu-ray burner - why?

There is a "ThinkPad Blu-ray Burner Ultrabay Slim 9.5mm Drive II
(SATA)", model 43N3230, but it's apparently incompatible with the
    T61.

    Any idea why?

"Windows" is required, so I wonder if running linux might enable the
    43N3230 to work in a T61.

  2. I take it you didn't understand the previous answer. The T61 uses an
older hardward interface to devices, which is why the newer device
    won't work.

You could look at a usb attached burner.
