Thinkpad 2nd BIOS password

Discussion in 'IBM Thinkpad' started by Nigel Andrews, Feb 15, 2008.

  1. I have a Thinkpad model 2647 and I can't get beyond the 2nd BIOS password
    prompt.

It boots and prompts F1 or F12

F1 gives a BIOS password prompt which I answer and get an 'OK'.
but then it shows 'Check date and time settings' and gives another password
prompt (like the first) but the same password doesn't work and after 3
    attempts it locks.

F12 gives a number of errors after the password is entered, date/time, CMOS
checksum and resource conflict, then as for F1 it asks for a password again
    and locks after 3 attempts.

Can you give me any idea what it going on here?
I suspect maybe the BIOS backup battery is dead, but why once powered
doesn't it let me in to set the date/time?

    Thanks

  2. Ouch!
I only know the one password. So next question is how can I get around the
    Supervisor password.

But I am still not sure why it is leading me this way.

    Thanks

  3. I presume if I can get to the back-up battery and pull it that will reset
    and password settings?
