Tips for getting a USB DVD writer working?

    I have a Belkin 4 port USB 2.0 PCI adapter in a Netra T1 105.
    Sony DRX710UL DVD burner
    Solaris 9

After boot -r, /var/adm/messages show that the USB adapter and the DVD
burner are found. However, vold doesn't seem to see the device and it
is not obvious to me what device I should mount manually. I compiled
cdrtools from source. cdrecord -scan seems to only look at the real
scsi bus. What am I missing?

get the compatible property from prtconf -v or prtpicl -v:

add_drv -i '"usb info here from the compatible property"' scsa2usb
    devfsadm -v -i scsa2usb

(eg for reference cos my usb cdwriter is not connected):

    prtpicl -v ....

    mouse (obp-device, 66000001c3)
    :assigned-address 2
    :reg 4
    :compatible (66000001d7TBL):usb-vendor-id 2522
    :usb-product-id 6
    :usb-revision-id 1
    :usb-num-configs 1
    :usb-release 272
    :usb-vendor-name A4Tech
    :usb-product-name USB Optical Mouse
    :low-speed
    :driver-major 2
    :driver-minor 0
    :ddi-no-autodetach 1
    :devfs-path /[email protected],0/pci1458,[email protected]/[email protected]
    :driver-name hid
    :binding-name usbif,class3
    :bus-addr 4
    :instance 0
    :_class obp-device
    :name mouse

    so you'd use {-i '"usb9da,6.1"'}

    and from my /etc/driver_aliases file:

    scsa2usb "usb584,222"

We seem to have progress. There are now device links in /dev/dsk/* and
    /dev/rdsk/*.

    vold finds the drive:

    Wed Dec 8 15:20:28 2004 info: dso_load: loaded /usr/lib/vold/db_mem.so.1

Wed Dec 8 15:20:28 2004 info: vold: running

And I can't mount it. Not automatically with vold. And not manually without.
(This is with a CDROM in the drive)

    mount /dev/dsk/c3t0d0s2 /mnt
mount: No such device or address
    mount: Cannot open /dev/dsk/c3t0d0s2

    sudo format -e /dev/rdsk/c3t0d0s2
    No disks found!

    prtvtoc /dev/rdsk/c3t0d0s2
prtvtoc: /dev/rdsk/c3t0d0s2: Unable to read Disk geometry errno = 0x6

    And yet:

    /opt/schily/bin/cdrecord dev=3,0,0 -checkdrive

DVD+RW-tools want a device file. I have't figured out what to give them.
