Tom,
Sorry to make a new post but AOL isn't showing my post yet I can see it using another ISP's newsgroup. However, I can't post to this group from that ISP for some odd reason ... anyway:
Yes, your synopsis just about sums it up Tom. It goes through POST and then hangs after Updating DMI Pool. I’ve tried to boot with ICH5R SATA controller set to enhanced mode IDE and running as IDE 3 & 4 and it just won’t boot if the Maxtor drive is cabled.
Have also tried the Auto setting as well. In fact, without the Maxtor drive cabled and just trying to boot XP off the Raptor, I have to change the setting from Enhanced to Auto. Plus, under Hard Disk Boot Priority, I always need to put the Raptor back on the top of the list because it always changes when the OnChip Serial ATA mode is changed.
I think I’m going to try a utility a friend has called Delpart and delete all the partitions on the Maxtor and see if that solves the problem. I just have a feeling that with XP on the Maxtor, the boot loader sees two copies of XP and is not letting the Raptor boot. Something to try at least.
John
