ATA hard drives will soon be as fast as, (on average) twice as large
as, and much cheaper than, SCSI drives.

Oh for crying out loud. Will the incompetence ever cease? How can anyone actually take this crap seriously?

ATA drives are Faster than standard SCSI drives now ;)
I would guess that the statement "Much Larger" is based on what they expect users to buy, 200/300gig drives will be the rage for many nuts out there, and how many users with SCSI drives will add one of those to the system.. But it's their "View" and I guess that you have your "View" and th ey are both ****'d views.. Myself i want to see solid state memory drives come into the market a bit stronger than they are now (but that's just me)

Unless you're comparing the fastest near-vaporware SATA drive against the slowest real SCSI drive: no, they aren't...

SCSI drives are expensive because they are faster. You can't take a standard cheapo ATA drive and make it run at 15000RPM, it just doesn't work, you need to significantly increase the build quality. As far as I know, there are no cheap ATA-style drives that run faster than 7200RPM. The Raptor is basically a SCSI-style drive with a SATA interface.

ATA drives are at least a factor of 2 cheaper, meg for meg.

Depends which bits.

Do you have a source on that? The only ATA drive that could touch a SCSI is the 10,000RPM Raptor, and thats SATA. Count the number of 15,000RPM SCSI drives...

The Raptor has an Access time of 8.3ms
Good 15K SCSI drives are just under 6

Raptor has a sustained transfer rates of 45-60Megs/s
Good 15K SCSI drives are 50-75Megs/s

Hopefully memory based on nanotubes will surface pretty soon - it'll blow away current memory in terms of density and speed... maybe a couple of orders of magnitude in density and a good order in speed. Given that you can make it using normal fab processes, it should be able to compete in terms of price/meg with hard drives. Oh except that'll it'll be insanely fast in comparison.
