Trouble with Microsoft AntiSpyware automatic updates on Tablet PC

My desktop Windows XP computer has twice gotten automatic updates of
Microsoft AntiSpyware but no updates have been offered on my Tablet PC. I
think all the relevant user settings on both computers are set the same.
After the first failure of the Tablet to receive an update, I tried to get
the update manually (after waiting a few days to see if there was some
asynchronous update offering), and when no update was offered I uninstalled
the program and installed the new version from scratch. Now, after the
second update not offered on the Tablet, the desktop has version 1.0.615 but
the Tablet still has version 1.0.614.

Is this a problem affecting other Tablet PCs or this just one of those
quirks that happens to be messed up on one of my two computers? I keep the
tablet off most of the day but it was on today during its automatic update
time, but no update was fetched.

I don't really know why you're showing .614 Mickey, although I have heard
some reports of the same thing with the recent update of that beta program -
and not on Tablet PCs. I would suggest you go to
    http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/default.mspx and download
the .615 beta version. Once on your system, uninstall whatever you
presently have installed via Add or Remove Programs or All
    Programs/Microsoft Spyware/Uninstall . . ., restart the system, and then
    install your download. I think you'll find the version in Help/About . . .
will read (Beta 1) and build 1.0.615.

Mickey, I've actually seen this reported by regular desktop PC users, too.
I would suggest you uninstall the version you have installed, through All
    Programs/Microsoft Antispyware/Uninstall. . . or through Add or Remove
Programs, then download and install the more recent release (Beta 1,
1.0.615). You'll then have a clean, correct beta version on your system. I
don't believe just because you're on a Tablet PC you're seeing the
    difference in build.

OK. I'll just uninstall and manually install the new one, as I did the
first time this happened (and that did not prevent the problem from
happening a second time). Whatever the problem is, it does not sound

Nope, I'm quite sure it isn't, Mickey. You are the lucky winner, though, of
being the first Tablet PC user I've heard it from. Usually with beta
builds, I don't install one build (even an update) over a previous one when
a full, new file is available. Prevents errors.

  7. I've had two MAS updates on my Tablet. Once I got the update before
colleagues, and once a couple of days later.

    Hi, Mickey,

Just so you don't feel alone, my Motion M1400 didn't receive the update
notice until last night, considerably later than y other machines.

Having update notices staggered so server load is smoothed out seems fine,
but what surprised me is that a manual update didn't work. The first time
this happened I waited a few days and then did a manual uninstall and
reinstall after automatic and manual updates didn't work. Maybe I just
didn't wait long enough. I've had no such problems with other Microsoft
updates. I suppose beta versions such as Microsoft AntiSpyware are just
    more quirky.

A few days ago I uninstalled the old version and then downloaded and
    installed the new one.
