ATI recommends uninstalling COMPLETELY the old driver before installing
the updated driver. But how will I be able to see anything with nothing
driving the monitor? I'm a little confused.

When you reboot AFTER completely removing the old video driver, Windows will
automatically load a generic VGA driver to get you by until your system has
rebooted to the desktop and you can install your new video driver.
