USB 2.0 not recognizing anything new (ipod 3rd gen nano, sandisk micro, hub etc.)

My PC will not recognize my ipod 3rd generation nano, Sandisk micro or usb hub. It will recognize my Sandisk MP3 player, my Sandisk mini cruzer and an Ipod 2nd generation nano. When I plug into any usb hubs ( I have 5) none are recognized. Ipod not in Itunes or device manager. I have updted every driver I have. I have had this problem for months now and have tried just about everything I can find. Please help!!!!!! Oh, and did I mentioin that about the same time, my CD drive stopped working but my dvd player works.
