my ic7-g card with Intel 3.0 800Mhz HT and an Abit IC7-G with corsair XMS 3500 434 Mhz...

its about 50 degrees just running win xp...
when i try like 3d rendering it get to really 70-80 hot and system goes down... hmmm i got the boxed cpu fan...should i buy another or what can i do? Tommy

Tommy Hi
Wow thats warm...... Start with case ventilation then go to CPU cooling, IMHO that is.. See what a couple of 80cm fans do to cool it a bit.

I assume you have oone of those new copper bottomed HS that comes with the 3Gz models, It might be worth checking.

The Zalman CPU cooling range seem to be the most popular on this NG.

Good Luck
Jerry

if i cool down this cpu enough how can i overclock it? how fast will it run? and the freeze gel between the cpu sand the cooler how mutch shall i put on ??? regards Tommy "---==T.F==---" skrev i meddelandet

do you monitor the case temperatures? you have decent case airflow? if you do, then there is something serious going on with your heat sink mounting or something. even under full load I never get anywhere near what you are seeing...

you could expect to get at least 240 FSB out of it and maybe more. I am running a 2.8/800 at 244 at stock core voltage with no problems at all.

as for the thermal grease, you just want a thin coat, enough to cover the cpu uniformly and nothing more. using the edge of a credit card to smooth the coating works for some folks.

were can i try this fsb ???setting?
im not lazy but im new too this i only use intel mobos before...intel maryville 850:-)

get your temperature problems straightened out first... then come back with trying to overclock.

well i know when to do what... so were is your answer? regards

well, basically, you want to set the NB to whatever speed the cpu is as long as the ram you have can tolerate the speed it will end up doing as well. if you have something like Corsair XMS3500 then you set the NB to 800 (assuming an 800 FSB cpu) and then you can pick the ratio of 4:5 (I always forget which number goes first in that ratio so if I have it backwards, apologies) so that your ram will end up approaching 200 (times 2 since it is DDR means DDR is approaching 400) as your cpu FSB approaches 250. now, you may not reach 250 but some have and as I said, with no overvoltage on the core at all, I am at 244.

meanwhile, I am also able to set the ram timings, on the advanced chipset page to 2, 5, 2, 2. With those timings and the fsb where it is, I am not able to do anything with the performance enhancement with my particular setup. your mileage may vary on that setting.

in a nutshell, that is what you do. there is more to it if your cpu is not an 800 fsb or if your ram is not able to do 400 Mhz or thereabouts.

yes i got this setup:
ic7-g card with Intel 3.0 800Mhz HT and an Abit IC7-G with corsair XMS 3500 434 Mhz... and now im off geting a very good fan for my cpu and my case:-) regards Tommy =====================================
