what are the factors that really decide the speed of a comp.

    All of the above affect the speed along with alot of other specs.

    All are factors of a computers performance each part has its own role
    in the overall performance. One slow part will drag down the rest.

    engine, the gas, the body style? Mount a 700 horsepower engine in a
    car with skinny bicycle tires, and you will spin your tires very
    quickly. Poor transmission ratios will have your engine speeding
    while your car is barely moving - or lugging along trying to get
    enough torque to get moving. And a top fuel dragster running on
    50-octane gas probably won't even start.

    As others have said, computers are _systems_ and performance can be
    hindered by a number of factors.
