I believe I have a bad KG7 mobo (has corrupted/ruined 4 - 6 sticks of memory so far) is highly unstable memory -wise and want to replace it with something compatible to my other components:

AMD Athlon XP2000+ cpu

Thermaltake volcano 6 cpu cooler

4 x 256 Crucial PC2100 DDR memory

SB Live

Elsa Gladiac 920 GF3 video (may upgrade to Nvidia 5900)

USR 10/100 net card

2 x 60GB WD ATA/100 HDD

Win XP Pro w/SP1

AMD approved 420W pwr supply

52x CDR

FDD

What board would be the most compatible and would I be able to just swap components or would WinXP give me problems with the new mobo drivers, etc? TIA

I had a KG7-R and replaced it with an NF7-S. Make sure you update the bios on it before you try raid on the sata controller. For me, It's been TOTALLY stable and fast. Also, the -s model has built in firewire (along with sound, lan, usb 2.0)

I recently had a similar problem with my KG7-RAID with Crucial PC2100 Registered ECC memory.

All of the sudden, one day my memory failed. It would run ok with one module but if I put more than that I would get blue screen errors in Windows. Thinking it was a memory issue, I exchanged all four modules with crucial but I still experienced the same problem. I exchanged all the memory once again, this time Crucial gave me modules with half the number of chips on them (CT3272Y265.9LT). They wouldn't give me a one 1GB module. Anyway, my system appears to be running perfectly again with all four modules.

yeah i got one of those 9-chip modules and the rest are the 18's . they woudn't exchange the other 3 for the 9-chip ones even though they were replacementnts for bad ones.

Strange though I had errors on all 4 chips 2 days ago, then rearranged them in different slots and only the one newest had errors. I rearranged them again and turned ON the error correction in the BIOS and no errors since. Not sure if the order or the ECC is the reason for no errors last 2 dyas, or just luck (for now). Not confident that the errors will stay away though.
