wireless problem from a computer noob

    Um........ I'm using a Compaq Presario laptop and once I turned off my wireless connection using the wireless switch, I can't turn it back on (by pressing the wireless switch again)....
    Can anyone tell me how turn wireless on without using the wireless switch?
