It also depends on your motherboard whether it has the capability for 48 bit addressing but anyway regarding your colution I recommend you perform a repair XP procedure or use a restore point prior to your SP1 installation and then try again.

i tried the repair thing did not work
i have installed sp1 at leaset a dozen times
and its the same prob every time
now i NEED sp1 to see the drive

Or,,,
Try integratting SP-1 with the original install CD then burinng the results onto its own CD, then install... I have done this and it works. What you end up with is a fresh install of XP with SP-1 "already" built-in...

To see what I am talking about, go to a search engine and type in "integrating SP1 with XP" or similar. I think you can still find a few site with the info on them...

Basically what you do is copy the entire contents of the original XP CD to a temp folder then have SP-1 in another temp folder and use a prompt command to tell SP1 to integrate into the XP temp folder and all is done in a handful of seconds... Burn the results onto a CD then it is all doen for you. You now have a useable XP-SP1 install CD..

The one SMALL drawback is that it installs about 150mb of more files than installing XP then updating to SP-1... Small price to pay when you have a 160Gb HDD and well worth the effort....

What hardware do you have? Might want to check for any BIOS updates for the mobo to make sure it can support such a beast. After you install SP1, you might want to reinstall any mobo drivers and the video drivers as well.

does it happen with every page or just some? I have this problem with some pages (i see placeholders for images until i select show picture).. it happens when a program registers namespace handlers... in my case i use ftp voyager and when i have browser integration enabled i see it on certain pages not all...(ftp voyager support pointed me to this ms kb article) i believe it happens with servers that use http compression... not sure if this is exactly what your experiencing but have a look at this ms kb article and if you do have any programs that register namespace handlers try to disable the browser integration if possible

I use IE 6 and Mozilla 1.3.1 and the error occurs with both browsers.

Does this help

Q. How can I access all of my ATAPI hard disk, which is larger than 137GB?

A. Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1) and Windows 2000 SP3 add support for 48-bit Logical Block Addressing (LBA), which lets you access hard disks larger than 137GB. To enable 48-bit LBA, perform the following

steps:

1. Start a registry editor (e.g., regedit.exe).

2. Navigate to the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Parameters

registry subkey.

3. From the Edit menu, select New, DWORD Value.

4. Enter the name EnableBigLba, then press Enter.

5. Double-click the new value, set it to 1, then click OK.

6. Close the registry editor.

7. Restart the machine for the change to take effect.

Be aware that if you multiboot your system with OSs that don't support 48-bit LBA, editing this registry setting might cause data corruption. If you still can't access hard disk space beyond the 137GB limit after you restart your system, your system BIOS might not be 48-bit LBA compatible, in which case you need to talk to your computer manufacturer.

well, it is important to realize that those steps are only required for systems *without* SP1 on XP or SP3 on Win2K and that if you do enable 48 bit LBA on systems without SP1/SP3 that MS says that data corruption can occur.

Only a true idiot would install WinXP without SP1 included on a >137GB HDD....hehe

'Perhaps' slipstream SP1 or now SP1a to your XP disc and format and install right from the outset with >137GB support.

BTW:-

Booting from Patrtition Magic 8.0 Rescue Disks will quickly confirm whether your BIOS (or MB hardware !) will support
>137 Gbytes.
