ze 5400 distorted sound

I just reinstalled windows on my hp ze 5400 laptop and the sound is distorted. in the past i remember having to install some sort of a driver for it to make the sound work. i seem to have forgotten what exactly it was that i installed. does anyone know what i can do to fix the sound?
