cannot recover 6420nx with recovery disks

    hard drive was wiped out -didn't have recovery disks, so wife put win98 on drive
    got recovery disks from compaq
    have followed all steps in instructions recovery does not go past "starting compaq recovery" on first disk then sits there for hours until turned off
    have even wiped everything off drive and tried with no os on drive
    HELP ME PLEASE OR MY WIFE WILL TAKE OVER MY sr2050nx!
