I have an ASUS P5Q PRO mobo that has 1 IDE socket. This is already taken up by 2 IDE devices but I want to install a further IDE hdd. I bought one of those small IDE/SATA converter boards that plug into the back of the hdd then connect to a SATA socket. After hours trying to get the BIOS to recognise this drive by swapping jumpers and cables etc etc I've run out of ideas. Just heard today from the suppliers (not in sales data) that this device is not suitable for SATA 3 boards. Can't find any ref to SATA 3 in manual but I note the board has SATA 3 Gb transfer rate. Is this what SATA 3 refers to in which case I've found why the beast doesn't work!
